The govt is very aggressive about going after assets--or former assets--of
Medicaid patients. It's not that simple to shelter one's assets.

One advantage of saving money and being able to self-pay for a nursing home is
more choice in where you go. A Medicaid patient ends up where there is an
empty Medicaid bed, which is not necessarily close to other family or in a
good home.

Given the increasing burden of health care costs, there isn't much of a long
term future of Medicare--it's gonna run out of money, as will the overall Feds
when the Chinese get sick of our ever increasing debt. Given that many
seniors have lost their
pensions yet living longer, in the future we're gonna see senior domitories
with minimal comforts. That's all they can afford.

The newspaper reported the merged American/US Air is making great profits. At
the same time, they are in court demanding to slash pensions of their retired
employees. And people applaud this sort of thing, saying it is "good" for the
economy!
