   In a toolbox...   
      
   I have never needed to carry an oil can in my tool box, but I think I   
   still favor the small plastic squeeze bottle with a metal needle   
   dripper/applicator.  It occurred to me that it might be useful to create   
   a space int he tool box to protect it.  If using a sheet metal box fold   
   a small sheet metal compartment just the right size,and rivet it to the   
   inside of the box.  If using a canvas tool"box" sew in a compartment for   
   it, and drop a hard plastic cup in the compartment.  The idea is that   
   unless you completely dump the box upside down the oil applicator bottle   
   is protected from being crushed by other tools in the container.

   I would make the compartment or cup deep enough to fully enclose the needle,   
   they are easy to damage and a puncture hazard to your hand. Sewing machine   
   needle oilers are cheap and readily available, though their capacity is   
   small.
