Now that I've finished the projects I'll post ... seems like
everything I touched the last few days just did what I wanted . I've
been working on a set of Arctic Cat 4X4 vertical twin cylinders , got
the project squared away with the customer* and did the finish bore on
the new cylinder sleeves . Hit my goal of 10-12 thou under finished bore
size on both sides . I like to leave enough meat to be sure the finish
hone leaves the bore nice and smooth . The same guy gave me a
flange/splined stub project that he had to cut apart to get disassembled
. He said it's out of a GM 2500 transfer case . Cleaned things up and
machined a plug for alignment and welded it back together and that also
went well . Next up was a simple task of slotting bolt holes on a fan
pulley to accommodate a larger bolt circle .
And last but by no means least was enlarging the wrist pin holes for
the Arctic Cat job . Bigger bore pistons have a larger wrist pins .
This wraps up all the projects I had for other people . I do have a
piece of 1045 chucked up for a backplate for my "new" 3" three jaw chuck
. I guess I should be crawling under the truck and getting those bed
bolts loose with my new inductive heater ... gotta get the axle out and
to the shop to be re-geared ... but not until it dries out some .
*Patrick used to live across the road from me , a very nice guy .
He's working in an auto repair shop he co-owns with his son , and the
Cat 4X4 is a personal project for him (the flange/spline is for a paying
customer ...) . In exchange for the motor work he's working on the
cylinders for my 1939 Harley . Patrick will also be doing the work on my
truck axle . Another swap , he's getting a pretty complete Sioux
   valve/valve seat grinding setup .
