   Thanks everyone.   
   Sawing off a longer ali ladder I did wonder about.   
   Short two-part extending ladder I did not think to ask about.  Would   
   make sense for a tradeperson with a small van with a roofrack (think   
   European-sized vehicles), so there would be a market.
