   Remember, the money is in the software and not the hardware. Sega only   
   licensed the retro-collection handhelds, whereas companies like Radica   
   were the ones who manufactured and marketed them. The expense of having   
   two controllers isn't justified when you can put out emulation discs that   
   run on current-generation gaming systems, like Sega is doing for the PS2   
   and PSP.   
      
   If you're interested in extending the functionality of those retro   
   handhelds, Ben Heckendorn has documented the process of adding a cartridge   
   slot and an LCD screen to them. It's also worth nothing that real Genesis   
   hardware and many Megadrive clones are still available at retail if you
