XPost: alt.games.video.xbox, alt.games.phantasy-star       From: bel@whipassgaming.com              >> Unfortunately, no. Though I have figured out a few trick to make       >> things now quite so shitty during a quote-heavy reply, I've yet to       >> find anything that gets around it. :(       >       > Yeah, if it'd just give us a way to respond with the original text       > marked like it is on Usenet it'd be fine, why they need everything in       > code is beyond me.              I think it's because most forum boards are trying to get as far away       from the plainness of usenet's text-based messaging. I'm sure you've       noticed that most forums out there are pretty much just filled with       picture whores who use 800X600 picture for their signatures, and have       some bullshit 4 meg flash file as their avatar. Then, the post is so       filled with those fucking "emoticons" you can't even read most of       it(this is, of course, after you've waited to 7 and half minutes it       takes to load any given section of the forum, as each page seems to be       25+ megs due to all of this).              Now, with my forum I have deleted *every* emoticon in the database, cut       the avatar sizes down to 100X100 with a max size of 25k and don't allow       *any* pics in the posts...as I'm trying to get it back as close to what       it was originally based on: Usenet. :)              >> That's fine, and there's really nothing wrong with doing it that way.       >> You'll notice that, really, only Bluecrab and I seem to have nothing       >> better to do than do it that way...everyone else just sort of does       >> what you're talking about. No big deal. If I wasn't so constantly       >> bored at work, I'd probably do it as well. ;)       >       > The only reason that I ever started to post replies like this was       > because of advocates on Usenet and their propensity for forgetting what       > they had just said in a thread (especially if my reply had anything to       > do with challenging their point).              That's a good call. I'm so amazingly longwinded(and bored) most times, I       tend to reply to every little bit of text I see just for the sake of       making conversation.              > That doesn't seem to be a problem in       > WAG forums, oddly enough. ;)              Yeah, there's not a whole lot of arguing over there. I mean, people will       disagree with whatever or have differing opinions, and more power to'em,       but it never gets to be "Hey fucknut, you opinion is WRONG!!!!" or any       of the foolishness you generally see from the more vocal trolls who       intrude here. ;)              Bel       --       Whip Ass Gaming: http://www.whipassgaming.com/              "Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream...whoa, I think my dingy       hanging out!"        - Lo Wang, Shadow Warrior              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
