   No idea. Sega and Microsoft are pretty screwy and uncommunicative when it   
   comes to the Xbox PSO servers. If they go down, it may not be with any   
   announcement.

   I'm probably the only one still paying attention, so for sure I'll pipe up   
   when news hits my ears. :)

   Yeah, as long as you have a Live account. Now that Silver accounts are   
   free, it's trivial to sign up for one and then recover it on the old Xbox.   
   However, it's possible that Microsoft may remove the online updates for   
   certain games if they decide that they're no longer supported. If that's   
   true, then even if you only play offline the PSO app might complain that   
   you need updates that you can't get anymore. It's worth testing with an   
   Xbox that's got a live Gamertag save but no network connection.
