   Are you using any third party stuff? If so, try an official Sega DC pad   
   with no rumble pack or VMU inserted and see how that goes. Also, have   
   you tried changing the date with the controller plugged into another   
   port? I'm not sure if that'll work, but it's worth a shot. Hopefully   
   leaving it plugged in will recharge the battery so that this won't   
   happen again...
