Genesis sound may have had static in the some of the music, and it was
especially true that there was static in the voices, but the Genesis with
the headphone jack (aka Genesis 1) could definitely do stereo sound with a
headphone plug to stereo RCA output cable, and the Genesis 2 (along with the
Sega Nomad which used the same Genesis 2 audio/video out cable) could also
do stereo sound with its audio/video output cable.

Easy Proof: Streets of Rage 2 Stage 1 music, the opening synth line pans
from left to right and right to left.
