   FWIW, I have a model 1 Sega CD (and a couple of Laseractive modules)   
   that had a socketed EPROM. But you still need a 40-pin programmer.   
      
   Anyhow, I see no point in putting a model 2 bios on a model 1 unit. The   
   problem is that it could expect slightly different hardware. But putting   
   different region bios can actually be useful... if you can patch it to   
   not check the console region first.
