    It may be useful, but it has been considered a violation of   
   netiquette since the advent of Usenet. Surely if you have a topic that   
   you want multiple groups of people to take the time to address, you   
   should take the time to modify the post to suit each audience.

   I agree that filters work well in elimination troll posts and spam. But   
   regular posters with any respect for the regular members of these groups   
   should not OP cross posts unless each group is literally about the same   
   topic (which is very rare).
