   There are a lot of Famiclones which use a DB-9 connector with a   
   completely different pinout, and with a serial interface instead of the   
   old Atari-style parallel. I'm guessing that your Geniclone probably   
   translates a SNES controller to a Genesis 6-button controller, maybe   
   even inside an ASIC... of course without any consideration for the mode   
   button.
