   Of course I share your anti-Olympics views. I would shut down the whole   
   spectator sports industry if I could, and provide the people with   
   intelligent drama to replace it.   
      
   The idea of wasting so much money on a ten day sporting extravaganza is   
   utterly absurd, except for the fact that in our world, the only way to   
   get governments to really spend money is to have a war or to have the   
   Olympics. Consequently, in Vancouver, we're getting a focus on our   
   dreadful street poverty. In China, the country is actually going to have   
   to do something about its dreadful air pollution.   
      
   I grew up swimming in a pool build for the British Empire and   
   Commonwealth Games. We also built Empire Stadium for that event, and   
   Elvis and the Beatles both played concerts there. Bread & Circuses, it   
   is indeed, but  it seems to be the way of the world.
