   Are you using any sort of third party stuff on the DC(controllers, jump   
   packs, memory cards, etc)? If so, that could be the issue. If not, try   
   this: Just plug in the DC, pop Ecco in and let it run(no   
   controller)...see what happens. If it crashes, you may just have gotten   
   a bad disc. Unfortunately, they're still floating around out there. :(
