From: bel@whipassgaming.com              > I guess my issue is, I don't take Sega seriously as much as I used to.              I hear that.              > I       > had respect when they put all their effort into their own platforms. Now       > I feel like we do get some decent games but there's haphazard methods in       > putting the same titles on multiple systems or just releasing poor       > games.              I feel the same way, and in some regards I almost feel like they are the       new Acclaim with the way they are publishing all these other developer's       titles. Though I don't have much respect left for them, I will say that       they are *way* better than Acclaim, seems like those fuckers would       publish *anything* where as a lot of these third part dev. titles are       actually pretty good.              > I feel like Sega's golden age was with the Master       > System/Megadrive              I agree...though not so much for the SMS as the Genesis.              > I feel bad for Sega in a way.              I think all hardcore Sega fans do. It's hard to watch something we all       had such admiration for, such confidence in and supported so much just       fall apart like they have.              > I wished Sega to fail       > with the Dreamcast after being burned on their previous       > systems/peripherals (Sega CD, 32X, and to an extent the Saturn).              I don't know about this, man. The Sega CD was a solid system, I mean the       ratio of quality titles to crap was really high, and we got some games       that people *still* talk about to this day on it. The 32X I can kind of       understand, *if* you paid the $150 Sega was initially asking. If you got       for $79, then I think you didn't look hard enough in to the library. It       too had a high ratio of quality titles, not to mention stuff like Shadow       Squadron and Virtua Racing Deluxe that future sequels on more powerful       systems still can't compare with.              The Saturn, though not my favorite Sega console, was still heavily       supported in the US despite the bungling job that SoA was doing. I think       that even at $300 noone could really be upset at how it ended on the the       Saturn.              > I       > finally came to my senses and realized the Dreamcast could hold it's own       > against the likes of the Playstation 2.              Well, it's more recent hardware...so of course it was going to be more       powerful(if it wasn't, then the developer really fucked up)...but that       doesn't mean that the DC sucked by any means. Take it for what it is,       not what you compare it against. I mean, hell, if I did that I'd have to       dismiss every console I have as my PC beats the fuck out of every single       one of them. ;)              > I think in retrospect, I don't       > view my former videogame companies/developers like I used to (Konami,       > Capcom, Sega, just to name a few).              To me, virtually every single one of them have fallen apart. The quality       level has just dropped through the floor on virtually every one of there       properties save for a few of their more popular ones(ie: Namco's Soul       Calibur, etc).              > I wish Sega the best though. I'd love       > to see some sort of return by Sega to the console market but that's just       > a pipedream. I guess the only new Genesis I can get is the one being       > released by Hyundai.              Yeah, I don't think we'll ever see Sega releasing a new piece of       hardware, even in the arcades. I see the Xbox as the direct successor       the DC, it took everything that was great about the Dreamcast and pumped       it up. I almost wish that Sega would have tried to approach MS at the       beginning to see if they couldn't co-create a console. Imagine that.              Bel       --       Whip Ass Gaming: http://www.whipassgaming.com/              "I'll tell you something, you show me anyone who will eat lima beans       without being at gunpoint and I'll show you a pervert!"        - Gaspar, Paladin of the Lost Hour              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
