There are different dashboards, but that seems to be the simplest one to
deal with. I have two hardmodded boxes with 200GB drives, and it's nice
not to worry about screwing up the wrong file. It's basically impossible
to brick an xbox with a hard mod, unless you screw up the mainboard. And
you can even temporarily install a hard mod while upgrading the hard
drive, then remove it later, since most of the work is installing the
LPC pins, which the modchip plugs into. It's about as hard as a Saturn
region switch mod, though you do need 30ga wire to attach to a couple of
   via holes.

FYI, a few years ago I did a quick web search and found some place in
Canada selling a stealth version of the Aladdin chip (you have to hold
in the power button for a moment when turning it on), with a pre-loaded
BIOS. They were $25 each, so I ordered two to make up for the cost of
shipping, and I'm glad I did. It really wasn't all that hard to install,
but I had older revision motherboards. It's only that rev-6 board that's
real a pain in the ass without using a solderless adaptor. But those
solderless adaptors are really slick if you don't feel confident enough
   to do the wiring.
