Also, with the reverse cable (whether USB to controller or USB to card
slot), some Xbox memory cards will work as flash drives on a PC or Mac.
In particular, Max Memory does work, and Mad Catz does NOT work. And
likewise, the Xbox can read most USB flash drives.

It might be possible to read those other flash drives by installing a
special driver, but it's easier to just get a Max Memory.

I tried a USB flash card reader once, but the Xbox was just confused.

I made myself a couple of cables by cutting a USB extension cable and an
Xbox controller extension cable in half, and wiring the halves together.
The main problem was that the extension cable didn't use the standard
USB wire colors, so it took me a while to figure out which wire was
   which.

That's what's nice about having a modded Xbox. You can use FTP (though
the typical Xbox FTP server is so crappy that some clients won't work)
to copy ANY of the files off of and on to the hard drive. I was even
able to desolder the EEPROM from a dead Xbox, read its contents, then
use that to unlock and read its hard drive.
