|    plenty of rain    |

From: songbird@anthive.com               it is pretty much the end of the gardening season here       now with recent rains putting an end to this round of the       dry bean harvest. the dry beans were picked through       pretty well before the rains started up so i managed to       avoid a lot of loss. i'll be able to pick full green pods       for shellies or wait and see if any will dry down before       frosts come along. i have bags of dry beans to shell out       sitting here waiting for me to get to them but a few hours       a day is plenty enough of that sort of work.               the melon season just ended. not as good as last year but       still acceptable considering how little work they involve       compared to the return. last year we had melons right up       until the frosts, but at the end the fruits were pretty much       tasteless. this year the plants got knocked down by powdery       mildew and that made a big difference. i hope next year is       much different in that regards.               squash, onions, tomatoes, garlic all did ok. will still       need to bring in the squash once it finishes.               now i'll be getting out and reshaping gardens, transplanting       some creeping thyme and getting the gardens put up for the       winter as the weather allows. a few hours a day is usually       enough to get it all done.                      songbird              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
