The pace accelerates , I got the last pieces to the drip irrigation
puzzle today in the mail . Looks like the garden is number one in
priority right now . I've got seedlings ready to go , and the irises are
   blooming - wife's grandmother's indication that it's time to plant .
Tomorrow looks good to get some 'maters in , but then we get 4 days of
"occasional/scattered thunderstorms" . I've waited to till because we
get cloudburst thunderstorms that will wash away my topsoil in a New
York Minute - it's taken me years to recover from that lesson !
I've got the main feed lines all cut to length , spent some time this
afternoon setting up some 1/4" tees with tubes and emitters for the
tomato row . Some plants will be fed from individual 1/4" tubes , some
will be fed from emitters in the main feed lines . Good thing is that I
have more than one location to regulate water supply to each segment .
My question now is "How much water is enough ?" I can pump 5 GPM ,in an
   hour that's 300 gallons (plus/minus , this ain't an exact science - yet)
for 950 SF of space . If I have all 200 emitters set to flow (average)
1.5 GPH , that's a pretty healthy ration of water per plant ... and
that's if I only water one hour daily . Likely scenario is that I get a
timer with a relay to turn the pump on for say 20 minutes 3 times a day
. This is going to take some tuning ... but I gotta admit , I'm really
looking forward to the results - my wife thinks I bought too many mason
jar lids (14 doz so far) . I sure hope she's wrong !
