With the idea that it's a last resort       self defense weapon.              But there also seems to be a popular       opinion that no folder is strong enough for       an extremis situation. Is failure, while       cutting/stabbing flesh, a serious possibility?       What is the failure mode?              If you did carry one, which brand/model do       you gurus recommend? Checking these       boards, it seems Spyderco is the preferred brand.       Is it really more solid? Tested? (how?)                     --       Rich                     Well, over here in the good old UK, we're allowed to carry a sub 3"       non-locking folder. Unless we can PROVE that we needed to carry something       bigger or less foldy for a specific task. Where I live, in the city, there       aren't really any excuses I could make for carrying something bigger.       Carrying a knife can get you 4 years in the chokey. They are talking about       making it an automatic 10-stretch too, same as carrying a firearm illegally       (which really means carrying a firearm "at all").       And yet, Glasgow, where I live, still has the highest murder rate of any       city in Europe. Fun and games!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
