   Is it a 163? They have the bevel ground on the one side. I presume it   
   would be for right handed use with the bevel facing the right when held   
   in the right hand. I used one much the same for general whittling when I   
   was a lad. I preferred the single bevel. Never used it for rope work   
   however. Maybe, when used for that purpose, the flat side serves a   
   useful function. Possibly makes a nice clean cut on the one side??
