   I don't think graphite would prevent rust.   
      
   I had an interesting experience once where I displaced oil on a bicycle   
   chain with Teflon spray. The chain looked nice and clean but after a   
   few sprayings where oil was probably all gone, the chain started to rust.   
      
   I don't think my knives are prone to rust but my guns are and I would   
   not use graphite as their sole lubricant.
