Surprised noone has answered this post. Personally I'm a SOG fan but I know
a lot of people love Spyderco. I also have a fast opening Gerber and all are
working well. I just like the Flash II's larger size and smooth operation.
It's also a personal choice as Spyderco's usually don't have a post to push
on, just a hole to get your finger in. Is it better? Probably not, but I'm
not a fan of Spyderco's design; I like the post. Also, keep in mind that
most mass produced knives are not going to be perfect and there will be a
reject or two in every batch. That said most manufacturers are very good at
   replacing or repairing defective knives.

I also look at other things. I like the way the Flash's clip allows the
knife to sit lower in my pocket, and the clip is on the "correct" side of
the knife for me. A friend of mine has a really nice knife but because of
the clip placement he has to turn the knife around to open it. So, what's
better for one person may not be better for another.
