XPost: dc.politics, alt.politics.obama, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh       XPost: talk.politics.guns       From: fubho@dont-email.me              The suspect nabbed in the stabbing murder of a jogger in       Washington, DC, is a 23-year-old resident of the capital with a       criminal past, police officials said Thursday.              Anthony Crawford was charged with first-degree murder in the       death of Wendy Martinez, an avid runner who was engaged to be       married just last week.              DC Police Chief Peter Newsham said Crawford, who lives in the       northwest area of the city, was picked up Wednesday night at a       park at 14th Street NW and Girard Street NW — about a mile and a       half away from the attack.              “The suspect did not cooperate with us,” Newsham said. “We don’t       have anything that suggests a confrontation between the two. It       looks like it was an unprovoked attack.”              Crawford allegedly plunged a knife into Martinez as she jogged       westbound on P Street NW at 11th Street around 8 p.m. Tuesday.              Graphic surveillance video shows the 35-year-old tech employee       stumbling into a nearby Chinese restaurant, bleeding from the       neck and begging patrons for help. Customers, including a nurse,       tried to save her — but Martinez died of her injuries at a local       hospital.              “Thankfully, there were some folks in the carryout who really       went above and beyond to try to help her before police and fire       could arrive on scene, but unfortunately, they couldn’t save her       life,” said Newsham.              Martinez did not know her attacker before she was murdered and       there were no signs of an attempted robbery, he said.              “We don’t have a motive in this case,” Newsham said, adding that       investigators are examining Crawford’s criminal record for any       clues.              Crawford was treated at the hospital for an injury on his hand.              Tips that poured in after police released images of the suspect       — wearing a distinctive T-shirt, sweatpants, white socks and       sandals — were key to making an arrest in the case, Newsham said.              He added that the slaying was rare for the city, let alone a       neighborhood as safe as Logan Circle.              “This is a very isolated instance,” he said. “You don’t see       crimes like this, even in the course of my career.”              https://nypost.com/2018/09/20/suspect-charged-in-brutal-murder-       of-dc-jogger/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
