Utah       Carroll is one of the best but least known of the cowboy story songs.       John Lomax published it in 1910. He said he learned it from J.T.       Shirley of San Angelo, Texas who said it was written by a cowboy on the       Curve T Ranch in Shleicher County. It’s often pronounced 'Utah Carl'       but I like the way Carroll sings better. The hard cased cowboys       sometimes had compassion, heroism and nobility. Guess this is why       cowboys are still an important part of Americana."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
