   That would be handy.  Closest I can suggest is the Ballad Index.  It has   
   just such a synopsis at the head of each ballad - Child and many, many   
   non-Child.   
      
   The whole BI record is handy to have, anyway.  The title for each ballad   
   (and variant title) includes the Child #, if any.  Perhaps there's a way to   
   extract just the paragraph you mention.  It is available online or for d/l   
   as html or plain text.
