To get a kick out of this movie you need (a) a sense of humour, (b)
an irony implant for those whose national humour lacks this
important facet of humour, and (c) a deep understanding of the folk
movement and music in the 60s. Even so it's not much more than
several chuckles and a giggle or two, but definitely worth watching
given the above. It's just so *serious*!

As soon as you mentioned Roseanne Cash, I could see you were on the
wrong track. This is about *folk*, not Country (or Western). This
was the time when they wouldn't have Emmy Lou on the GOO, coz she
was too 'folky', and most of the folkies wouldn't have thought of
watching the GOO either - too many electric guitars and drums.

Believe it or not the folkies of this period took themselves very,
very seriously, even more seriously than today. So seriously that
they really believed that the future depended on them. That's where
a lot of the humour comes from.
