I did wonder, but a search for ...
    "three foot seam" lyrics song
... had found only a couple of references to Anne Price's version (lyrics I
couldn't check through requiring some plug-in or other - I like to keep my
browsing experience austerely simple - but apparently learned from Gary &
Vera Aspey) and many, many references to "Ballad Of Springhill". And as
ISTRC that Gary & Vera Aspey used to do the latter, and the phrase 'Hope
imprisoned in a three-foot seam' appears in it, I presumed that this was the
   song being referred to.

PS of no particular relevance: I once visited Raleigh on business, courtesy
of IBM, and the highlight of the trip was a visit to a stunning Japanese
restaurant, where the chefs cooked the meal on a hotplate in front of us,
juggling with all the kitchen utensils - an experience I'll never forget!
