   Greetings:

"Three Foot Seam" is not the same song as "The Ballad of Springhill." They are
two entirely different songs. For those who do not already know, "Three Foot
   Seam" has the chorus:

Working in a three foot seam,
I'll tell you, boys, this life is not a dream,
There's no joy to be found,
   When you're two miles underground,
And you're working in a three foot seam.

Anne Price and I are very goods friends, and we often perform together, but we
have different musical sensibilities. She has a very rich and beautiful voice,
and she prefers simple accompaniments which allow that voice to stand out.
Marilyn Maltzer, who passed away more than ten years ago, also had a very rich
and beautiful voice, and in their recording of "Suzie Cleland" they brought
those two voices to the forefront. Their delicate dulcimer and guitar
   accompaniment supported their voices perfectly.

I, on the other hand, prefer the "wall of sound" approach. Comparing our
versions of "Three Foot Seam" illustrates the difference very well. Yet, in
spite of that, we are able to sing together successfully. Listen, for example,
to our vocal duet on "A Shantyman's Life," which is also on my SoundClick music
   page [ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=106201 ].
