   All very good advice, I think.  Jam sessions I'd think are particularly   
   good.   
      
   I also wouldn't be too concerned about style if, eg, you go to a bar gig &   
   hear a jaunty Irish group - the individuals might _also_ be skilled in or   
   capable of learning your hard-rock-Christian folk (or whatever you do).
