XPost: misc.misc, rec.music.celtic, nf.arts       XPost: nf.general       From: dalton@nfld.com              This past Wednesday I went to Folk Night at The Ship Pub here in       St. John's, Newfoundland. The headliner was Solid Ground, who       are a trio of Nadine Hollett on vocals, Don Walsh on acoustic       guitar and some backing vocals, and Jason Whelan on bouzouki       and some backing vocals. They did mostly celtic folk songs,       some they have learned off LPs and CDs, some in the       Newfoundland tradition. I thought that they have improved       some since the last time I heard them, and I hope they put       out a CD someday. Graham Wells joined them for their second       set, on button accordion and bodhran. Between their sets       there was a full (four acts) open mic set.              The headliner for Feb. 10 is Duncan Cameron, a       multi-instrumentalist and singer who moved to       Newfoundland from Toronto not long ago.       The start time is now 9:30 p.m., not 9 p.m.              I didn't make it to Erin's on Friday or Saturday due to the snowstorm.              David              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
