XPost: nf.arts, nf.general, rec.music.bluenote.blues       XPost: alt.music.blues       From: dalton@nfld.com              This Wednesday, May 20, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at       The Ship Pub in St. John's, Newfoundland, the headliner       is blues musician Dave Mundy.              Cover is $5, there are door prizes, there is an open       mic set between the two headline sets, and open mic       performers get a free beer. Also the kitchen is open       until 8 p.m.              Here is the blurb from nlfolk.com :              With a transparency akin to being buck naked in a church congregation,       Delta Blues musician Dave Mundy is set to release two decades worth of       original recorded music this spring, starting in his new home of St.       John's Newfoundland.              "The Porch album," his first recording debuted in March 2015. It       features harmonica and guitar delta duo tracks and other songs with full       band, funk and soul stylings. This mirrors Dave's live projects and       provides enough platforms for his diverse and prolific songwriting       skills.               "I mix a dirty delta sound with funk, R&B, soul, folk, even       bluegrass and trad."I take the folk genre all over the place, but lately       I'm lovin a song that shares real soul while at the same time makin' you       really, really want to dance."              Reaching out to connect with the core of humanity with a big voice and       sweet harp playing, Dave is for the first time dipping into 20 years of       recorded and unreleased material to offer his groove to the people.       While the recording of the Porch album happened in Athens, Georgia in       2009, Dave is working with local musicians Adrian House, John Clarke and       Dave Hill to put together a series of shows in St. John's and the       mainland later this year.                     Next week (May 27) there will be a traditional celtic       unamplified (round table) jam session hosted this       month by Fergus Brown-O'Byrne.              --       David Dalton dalton@nfld.com http://www.nfld.com/~dalton (home page)       http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/dtales.html Salmon on the Thorns (mystic page)       "It is time for you to laugh instead of crying       Yes it's time for you to laugh so keep on trying" (The Kinks)              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
