|    Need Help Finding Public Domain Informat    |
|    09 Mar 06 22:24:59    |
From: peterg@uti.com              Hey, everybody!              I'm helping put together a little film project. Everything else is done, I,       lucky duck, get to find music. So I figured I would take the Ed Wood route       and find some public domain music that could be rerecorded to fit the film       (okay, so Wood didn't rerecord anything, but the general idea is the same).              Unfortunately, my paranoia is getting in the way. The rule of thumb is that       "generally anything recorded before 1919 is public domain." Not exactly a       help, with my luck, I'm likely to pick something that isn't. Being a fan       of Chopin, I thought about that, but I've heard of some composers whose       estates still hold the rights and can still charge. Evidence suggests       Chopin and other classical composers don't have such a situation (the sheer       number of "relaxing music" CD's at bargain basement prices for brand new is       what I base this on), and then there's the problem of something being       public domain but a derivative work isn't, meaning I might pass on       something when the source material is open.              I suspect it would be very bad form for me to post "Is 'X' a public domain       song or not?" questions, and since I can't be the only person wondering       this, there has to be a resource or site that can help weed out some of the       titles. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, if anyone can       point me to a place that has traditional Polish folk music (also PD,       please), it would be a great help.              Sincerely,       Pete Holland Jr.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
