I seem to ask this question close to Christmas every year, because I
   still havent found the song.

I may be in the wrong group for Christmas music, but the only one I
found deals is for Christmas sounds, and not lyrics.

When my brother and I were in elementary school in the late 60's to
early 70's, a christmas song came out about a dog named Snowball.

Two children, a boy and a girl were way too excited about what Santa was
going to bring them for Christmas, to pay any attention to their dog,
Snowball. He became upset and ran away from home.

The children became upset and began to cry, and then decided all they
wanted for Christmas was for Santa to bring their dog Snowball home,
instead of the presents they had asked for.

I believe Santa found Snowball on the side of the street, and brought
him back home on Christmas Eve.

The following is sort of what I remember as the last stanza of the song.

"At the bottom of the stairs, in a stocking, it looked like an ice cream
cone. Was a merry merry Christmas after all. Santa brung Snowball home.
Was a merry merry Christmas after all Santa brung Snowball home."

I remember the label on the record was red, and the song I think was
   sung by some children's group.

I've searched the internet every so often, but have yet to find the song.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

   Thanks,
