   You could weigh it and then set pressures at the tire manufacturers   
   recommendation.  Probably the best starting point. To Bill’s point, a tread   
   gauge and visual inspection, after establishing your baseline, is the way   
   to go.   
      
   On the other hand, if you follow current “wisdom”, you will be replacing   
   the tires after four or five years anyway so, within reason,  go with what   
   gives you the best ride.
