|    Buffeting wind problem    |
|    28 Oct 25 10:09:51    |
From: wolverine01@charter.net              Well I did at least find out something interesting on the problem       driving the View in strong winds. I know I have mentioned before the       issue where getting just the right blast of wind really seems to throw       off the RV. At first I thought it was the overhang or something mounted       on the roof causing the issue. On the way down, I was pretty convinced       it had something to do with the transmission and it struggling to       attempt being in the right gear when the wind would hit the coach. It's       hard to explain, but it felt like it was coming from the rear wheels,       and you could feel it in your hands and feet. On the way back it was       worse with this happening about 15 times. Even slowing down it still       happened.              A couple times it threw the RV out of cruise control and almost seemed       to veer it to the left. Very disturbing feeling. On one especially bad       instance, I just happened to look down at the dash and there was a red       warning saying "Crosswind Assistance" that flashed up for a brief time.       It was an aha moment. Getting home I researched it and I'll be damned       Mercedes has this "feature" where when over 40 mph winds happen (that's       all the time when driving) it kicks in and if it feels bad       irregularities, by braking it attempts to "assist" the driver getting       thru it. Horrible, horrible idea IMO and I didn't see one review of       people who liked it. Everyone also hated it and thought it was dangerous.              It doesn't appear Mercedes will turn this off for you, though I did see       this in one page: "The Cross Wind Assist can be deactivated from the       variant coding of the ESP control module with DTS Monaco software on       NCV3 and VS30."              But for $200 you can buy a little gizmo that plugs into the OBD2 port       and will disable it. Pretty sure I will be getting this if after I talk       to Mercedes about it and they won't do it.                     --       Science doesn't support Darwin. Scientists do.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
