XPost: rec.pets.dogs.behavior, alt.animals.dog, alt.med.veterinary       XPost: rec.pets.dogs.health       From: buttercupsdad@dog.net              Good Morning Puppy Wizard (Prophet, whatever).               I am going to claim ignorance to some extent. I do have some       understanding of what you are talking about (a little bit at least). For       example, I do know that dogs do not "hate". That is a human emotion       (anthropomorphism is projecting human qualities to inanimate objects, but       what is the word for doing that with animals?). When it comes to reading       what is in the dog's head, or correctly interpreting the dog's behavior, I       think you overestimate the ability of others to do that. I do have an       insight into what you are talking about because I have seen what you talk       about here in action to some extent. The guy where we take the dog for       boarding seems to be able to establish an uncanny bond with the animals.       When we go there my dog runs up to him which is something she does not do       with anyone else including me. I guess that tells you something, doesn't       it? Makes me feel pretty small I can tell you. He also gets her to do       things that she has never done before and that she does not do elsewhere.               Anyway, I do think a lot about what mistakes we are making with the dog,       which was supposed to be my wife's dog by the way, but we are both dog       lovers (I like all animals). I may has well come clean and let the world       know that we did have an electronic fence at one time for our last dog. But       I promise you that I will not do that again.               Better get to work. The bills need paying and Buttercup needs a new       leash....              David S.              P.S. And I promise to read your free training manual when I can get time to       do it. Holding down a job has kind of taken priority these days it seems.       No time for other activities.                      |
