That's HUGELY unlikely. "Familiarity breeds contempt".

The Simply Amazing Puppy Wizard has trained several Maltese
and many toy "lap dogs" and has never known WON who didn't
LIKE to be held or even carried in a pocket if they was small enough.

Sex got nuthin to do with this. A dog is a dog.
Your dog was afraid or mishandled in some way.

We had our Maltese from when he was a small puppy
and we never mishandled him or saw him mishandled.
I certainly hope he was never mishandled when he wasn't
   with us.
