   some years ago i made a trip to italy. middle & south of italy is full   
   of dogs without any home  :-(   
   two days before my return to vienna i 'met' a special dog (a little bit   
   shy but very friendly at all) who lived nearby a restaurant of the   
   autostrada (highway) age abt 1 to 3 yrs. people at the service station   
   told me the best about him and: "thats no life for him in this way".   
   went to rome - couldn't forget him - turned back the last day & took   
   this stray dog with me.   
   at home first he had to be visited by the vet: there were no probs.   
      
   i can tell you that he is a wonderful dog now. well educated very good   
   character i can take him everywhere (restaurants public transport so as   
   tram bus) well i think he is happy for having found a home for his own.   
   in my opinion there are so many poor dogs >really grateful for a chance   
   to find somebody who opens his heart<. puppies are preferred - for an   
   adult dog the possibility to find someone is often zero...   
      
   (have also taken 2 yrs later a dog who 'survived' in a hungarian lager:   
   a very very good dog & a beautiful young lady now).
