Your dogs are DEAD an DYIN from STRESS:

   Subject: Fidget's in the hospital

Tonight about 10:30, we were getting ready to take the dogs outside
for their final pee. I was in the den putting my shoes on and I heard
David holler "Fidget!" and then for me to come *right* *now*.

Fidget had fallen over and was having problems getting up; when
he finally did stand up (he was standing when I got there) he was
basically leaning against the dining room table. Something was not right
   with his eyes.

David had a dog once that had a stroke and thought this looked like
that, so we bundled Fidget up and flew to the emergency animal hospital
(which is also where our regular vet practices, although he
   wasn't on tonight).

Fidget was panting much worse than usual on the way to the vet.

We called while we were on the way, so they were ready for us
when we got there. He had stabilized by the time we got there
except that something still wasn't right with his eyes.

The doctor told us he isn't in immediate danger, and everything
seems normal now, except that he's running a fever (103.7). She
said we _could_ take him home, but she wanted to run some
bloodwork and thought he could use some IV fluids, and they will
have someone watching him tonight in case he has any more symptoms.

The vet is as baffled as we are. A stroke is one possibility, she said,
but it could also have been several other things, like a seizure, vagal
(sp?) nerve spasm, or even a slipped disc.

We hated leaving him there, but the thought of something else
happening while we were asleep convinced us that we should.

Toby has an appointment tomorrow anyway, so David can
bring both dogs home at once.

Please let this be nothing serious. Please please please.
