   There will always be a Pacific conference. A wrestling conference, mind you   
   (technically, schools like UC-Davis and Cal Poly are members)...   
      
   If you ask me, what the move should be, once the rest of the shoes (Arizona,   
   Arizona State, Utah) decide whether to drop or not, is to both merge with the   
   Mountain West and take in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation sports, and   
   call the whole thing    
   the Mountain Pacific Conference.   
   Among other things, this gives Stanford an excuse to bring back the annual   
   Elway Bowl against San Jose State.

   Added bonus: in the years where you have an away game at Hawaii, you have an   
   excuse to play 13 regular season games and/or a Week 0 game, at least until it   
   gets to the point where they start the entire season a week earlier than they   
   do now, if for no    
   other reason than to allow for 4-team conference football tournaments.   
      
   Just make sure the cadets aren't in uniform when Air Force has an away game at   
   Cal.
