   It depends on what you mean by "voted on by the group." The only time there is   
   a separate vote to determine a "Group of 5" champion is when none of the five   
   conference champions are ranked in the final rankings, which, AFAIK, has never   
   happened.   
      
   As for the highest-ranked Go5 team being the de facto champion, is it still   
   considered the best Group of 5 team if it loses its bowl game? You can make a   
   better case for the highest-ranked Group of 5 team in the final coaches and AP   
   polls (which, to be    
   fair, is usually the same team).
