Okay, to be fair, this       is one of those years where nobody really stood out - well, at least, nobody       who meets the "unwritten rules" for the award (either (a) an athlete in one of       the four major pro        leagues, (b) someone representing USA in some sport, (c) an American       golfer/tennis player, (d) a college football or basketball coach, or (e)       someone who gets it for reasons that have nothing to do with sports).        > My "short list" was Mahomes, somebody from the baseball Rangers, and a "city       award" for Las Vegas (Golden Knights, Aces, and throw in the Raiders and A's       and a Grand Prix plus an upcoming Super Bowl as well).              Deion did a GOOD job at Colorado, taking a 1-11 team and improving to 4-8. How       does that earn you Sportsperson of the Year?       This used to be one of the most prestigious awards in all of sports. No more.       This latest award makes a mockery of it. Of        course they had already done that before when they gave it to Lance Armstrong.       I used to know every year who got this        award. I couldn't name you one of the last ten. The last one I can remember is       Tiger Woods.               All of print media is rapidly becoming irrelevant. I think SI did this to draw       attention to themselves, knowing it would generate       some buzz. Wrong kind of buzz.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
