   The school isn't paying the player money. He has no binding contract with the   
   school. The player is an independent contractor   
   and is trading his name, image, and likeness with the companies that are   
   paying him. For example, Caleb Williams is getting   
   money from Dr. Pepper for doing their commercial. USC has nothing to do with   
   it. He owes USC nothing as long as he    
   doesn't appear wearing their jersey.
