From: mianderson79@gmail.com              For those who watched the game, this idiot punted on FOURTH and 3 up 17-9 at       the navy 38 with a little over 2 minutes left.              The fact that they gained like 11 yards on a bad punt isn't why it was a bad       decision. Even if it was a solid punt and they gained like 27 yards of fg       position and downed it around the 10 it's still a bad decision and outcome.              These sorts of decisions are a litmus test on whether a coach understands       basic principles of risk-reward in these situations, and whether they       understand the value of field position in these situations vs the lost       opportunity of getting a first down and        winning the game.              In almost all of these situations, the very real possibility/likelihood of       gaining a first down and WINNING THE DAMN GAME right there far outweighs any       loss in field position. Your chances of winning the game in these situations       only marginally change        if the opponent gets the ball at your 35-45 instead of your 10-20. However       should you convert the fourth down, your chances of winning are        00%......coaches that throw away a valuable chance to gain the first down and       win the game right there in        exchange for an often marginal amount of field position deserve to be fired.              That's all......              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
