Unfair contracts are the reasons that organisations like the actors
and writers unions in the States have minimum rates. It's *very* easy
to see how a contract offer can be unfair.

The other side of the coin, of course, is that - as you say - a
contract is an offer of employment. As Claudia didn't accept the terms
of the new contract she didn't by any description of the terms
"resign", "quit", "leave" or anything else. Her contract - at the end
of year 4 - had expired. She decided not to take up the offer of new
employment, which isn't "quitting" at all.
