   No one who followed the series from the beginning _needed_ to ask, because   
   that was explained in the pilot, Mr./Ms. Very Poor Speller: The first three   
   were destroyed by terrorists, and the fourth one disappeared under mysterious   
   circumstances, that were partially explained in an episode in the first season,   
   and completely explained in an episode in the third season.

   Now that _was_ a mystery, comparable only to "why would _anyone_ continue

   They showed B4 in the two aforementioned episodes, and as I said,   
   the rest of them were blown to smithereens, so that showing them   
   would have required additional prequels (or time travel... ;-I).
