   Yes, there should be a booklet for the S1 set.

   My S3 set has no problems playing SD. I'd have surely been pissed off   
   and exchanged it if it had!   
      
   Sounds like you need to try a different vendor -- the one you're dealing   
   with must have gotten a bad batch...
