And the Oscars are through AMPAS, anyway, so even if SAG had       some amazing way of finding out right away, they'd still have to notify       AMPAS, and probably lots of SAG members die every day. There are people who       are SAG members who haven't done a film in twenty years, or who do _one_ film       _ever_.              There are Trek people still foaming at the mouth that DeForrest Kelley wasn't       mentioned at the Oscars or the Emmys the year he died; it's up to the family       and/or the agent to make that notification. And if _they_ didn't do it, and       no fans took it upon themselves to do it, the organizations can't really be       faulted. They can't be aware of every single actor who's died, unless they       happen to scan the obits every day (and even then, in Andreas's case, the       obit appeared only in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch - a week later, there was a       "Passings" notice in the LA Times, but someone less prominent than he was -       that one-armed man role was in a huge blockbuster of a film - might not have       even rated a "Passings" item).              >> And its a shame his B5 role needs to be probably be played down to be       > taken more seriously. It's easily the best work of his entire career. <<              It's not so that he can be taken more seriously - the Academy honors work in       film, so if we make a big deal about B5, they'll think that he was mainly a       television actor. Just as if we carry this through to its natural conclusion       and try to convince the Emmys to honor Andreas, we'll want to _stress_ B5,       and play down his movie career.              Amy              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
