   	It's pretty clear that their "shepherding" of the other races was   
   something built on the basis of what the First Ones taught them   
   (something that they then slowly managed to screw up, showing that   
   they were not, in fact, Arisians or Eddorians). Lorien was apparently   
   actually THERE during all of that -- billions of years of it. Religion   
   may not be the exactly correct term. But they clearly had vast respect   
   and even reverence for Lorien, one of the few things the Shadows and   
   Vorlons still shared after all that time, and it was his presence --   
   and unwillingness to directly speak to them on the subject -- that   
   forced them to listen to Sheridan, because it was deadly clear that   
   from Lorien's point of view, Sheridan was saying everything that   
   needed to be said.
